Well what can I say about this machine! I won’t go on about the price or that it is completely waterproof, those features alone make this machine one of the best value for money detectors out there and the reason I spontaneously decided to buy one for the wet winter months.. also if you hear that this machine is entry level then please ignore that statement, it is far from entry level in my opinion! This machine firstly is very light so if like me you have back problems then this is the machine for you as I can swing this for 7-8 hours a day no problem! Another great feature is that if like me you use headphones that need to be plugged in then you will love the fact that the connection is situated under the head unit meaning you don’t have a problem with your lead catching any other gear you are wearing while out in the field. As for the performance on the machine I honestly don’t think you will miss any targets at all. I currently run the machine in field mode, full sensitivity, volume 2, iron audio 2, nothing notched, I manually ground balance in every field. On these settings I find that the machine chatters a little bit but that doesn’t affect signals in the slightest. The tones are very very clear and on most artifacts and coins it will offer a beautiful mid tone signal that you can not mistake. This also counts for hammered coins too unless very very thin where I find the tone to be higher pitched. The iron is distinctively spat out and the detector rejects it no problem at all with great response time so that if you are in among iron it will give you every chance to find the good stuff too. I have had the machine 2 weeks and I have had 3 hammered, a fibular and a roman coin among other bits and pieces. Another brilliant feature is the built in battery, on both my outings so far I have fully charged the machine the night before and have only lost 1 bar on the battery each time after 6-7 hours of constant use as I don’t tend to have a break! The VDI numbers are quite low on this machine compared to other machines, therefor I would recommend not to notch any numbers out at all. As an example my gold wedding ring reads 46, a silver hammered groat un-clipped reads 64, a roman coin the size of a 10p reads 34 so don’t dismiss any nice sounding targets. I am still learning the machine myself so depth wise I don’t have any complaints, like with any machine depth is all about the size of a target, ground conditions and the angle the target is laying in the ground. So far I have cleanly picked up all targets and various depths down to around 8-10 inches all on arable land. Last mention is on the waterproof aspect, I had concerns over the connections for the headphones and the coil but I have been out in storm like rain with no problem at all. When tightening your connections be sure to give the connector a wiggle once you think it is tight and you should find you can get a bit more out of it.

Really, really impressed with this amazing new detector! My wife is new to detecting and used it at her first rally yesterday. Really easy to set up and worked very well even though the weather conditions were pretty bad. She was delighted to find her first ever coin – a Charles II farthing at a depth of just over 10 inches! Also really good recovery speed and very easy to recognise ferrous and non-ferrrous items. The pinpointer is one of our favourite features so far and really helps. The ground was very wet with medium to long stubble, which was no problem at all for the Simplex.

Thank you Graeme and Melanie for your great service and thank you both for supplying this much appreciated addition to our detector ‘family’!
